Dr. Stephen Ferris

Stephen P. Ferris is the Executive Director for the Financial Research Institute (FRI). For more than 23 years, Dr. Ferris has previously served the University of Missouri in varying roles including Senior Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research; Interim Dean for the Trulaske College of Business; and Chair of the Department of Finance. Today, he continues his work as the J.H. Rogers Chair of Money, Credit and Banking. He has served as the FRI director since 2003.

As Senior Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Ferris led the successful preparation of the college's MBA students and the next generation of thought leaders as business professors. During his tenure, the college's new execMBA program for executives was successfully launched and today educates an impressive group of industry professionals. Dr. Ferris focuses his research on international corporate finance and corporate governance while continuing to teach doctoral students. He has served as President of the Eastern Finance Association and the Midwest Finance Association.

Dr. Ferris served in the U.S. Navy Reserve for 23 years, and retired with the rank of Commander. His Navy service included a mobilization to Kuwait in 2007 and a tour at the Pentagon, where he was a member of the Joint Staff.

Dr. Ferris earned bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and French from Duquesne University, an MBA and doctorate in finance from the University of Pittsburgh, a diploma with distinction from the U.S. Naval War College and a master’s degree in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College.
