Lanny Zieman is the Consumer Advocate for the Iowa Office of the Consumer Advocate. He was appointed by Attorney General Brenna Bird and unanimously confirmed by the Iowa Senate in 2023. Prior to being the Consumer Advocate, Lanny served as an agency counsel for the Iowa Insurance Division and the Iowa Division of Labor.

Lanny has served in the armed forces for over twenty-five years. He currently serves as a defense counsel for Airmen in the Iowa Air National Guard. While serving as an active duty Air Force JAG, he was assigned as a utility litigation attorney representing the Department of the Air Force before regulators across the country. He has deployed as an officer and an enlisted member. He has served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves, United States Air Force, and the Iowa Air National Guard.

Lanny grew up on his family’s farm in Iowa graduating from Mount Mercy College and the University of Iowa College of Law.
