The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) today announced the appointment of Dan Watermeier, a commissioner with the Nebraska Public Service Commission and an active member of the FRI Advisory Board, as co-vice chair of the NARUC Committee on Critical Infrastructure. Watermeier is succeeding another member of the FRI board, Commissioner David Veleta of the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.
Watermeier has been a member of the FRI Advisory Board since 2021. He joined the Nebraska PSC in November 2018, previously served as a Nebraska state senator from 2012-2018 and operates a farm. Along with the Committee on Critical Infrastructure, Watermeier is also a member of the NARUC Committee on Energy Resources and Environment and chairs the Nemaha Natural Resources Districts and the Nebraska Natural Resources Commission. He is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture.
“The nation’s critical infrastructure is of great concern to regulators and utilities alike. Commissioner Watermeier has the experience and knowledge to assume his new leadership role,” said Ann Rendahl, President of NARUC. “We are grateful to Commissioner Emeritus Veleta for his previous service on this committee.”
NARUC’s eight standing committees propose resolutions that, if approved by the board of directors, set the Association’s policy on congressional, federal and industry matters. The committees, populated by state public service commissioners like Watermeier, also hold educational and panel discussions on relevant issues to best serve NARUC members.
